The sixth mass extinction is upon us, and challenges like habitat loss, climate change, and disease mean that many common conservation strategies will not be enough. In light of these factors, biotechnology is playing an increasingly important role in the preservation of biodiversity. Cryopreservation is one such cutting-edge technology that we use to ensure that the most vulnerable species will be preserved for generations to come. The threats being faced by plants and animals worldwide are unprecedented, but novel conservation solutions give us a fighting chance of protecting biodiversity.
