Experience an enchanting evening of chamber music that beautifully intertwines nature and intimacy.
Finzi’s pastoral cycle, inspired by nature’s landscapes, invites listeners to journey through the English countryside, reflecting the profound connection between land and emotion. In contrast, Janáček’s quartet, an exploration of love and longing, offers a raw and heartfelt expression of personal sentiment.
The combination of Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 2 "Intimate Letters" and Gerald Finzi's song cycle By Footpath and Stile creates a tapestry of heartfelt reflection and deep emotional landscapes, inviting us to explore the complexities of human connection against the backdrop of the natural world.

Janácek’s String Quartet No. 2, “Intimate Letters”, is regarded as a highlight of the modern string quartet literature. It was written during the composer’s last year of life, between 29 January and 19 February 1928, inspired by the ageing Janácek’s exceptional love for Kamila Stösslová.
