CSI's second program dedicated to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - and the final in its German poets series The Belletrists - explores songs taken from the books of the great writer. The world of Wilhelm Meister offers notes of innocence, suffering, and longing, while The Book of Suleika brings out the interplay of passionate earthly love and transcendent, spiritual desire in a blend of Eastern and Western literary traditions.

Hugo Wolf embodies the vast swath of human emotions and experiences found in Goethe's writings by shaping them into dramatic, live musical experiences. It's just like the Lord of the Rings series being reimagined as feature films!

Nicht Gelegenheit macht Diebe
Hochbeglückt in deiner Liebe
Als ich auf dem Euphrat schiffte
Dies zu deuten, bin erbötig!
Hätt ich irgend wohl Bedenken
Komm, Liebchen, komm!
Wie sollt’ ich heiter blieben
Wenn ich dein gedenke
Locken, haltet mich gefangen
Nimmer will ich dich verlieren! -
