The Wendy Hill Fellowship
Pianist Corinne Penner’s performances have taken her across Europe and the United States to venues such as Seiji Ozawa Hall, Museo del Violino, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, and Colburn’s Zipper Hall. Her multi-faceted career embraces the solo piano, chamber music, and art song repertoire, with recital engagements at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Oxford International Song Festival, and other long-standing institutions. She is a grateful recipient of fellowships and scholarships from the Tanglewood Music Center, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Franz-Schubert-Institut.
A multifaceted and compelling artist, Penner has been a prizewinner in various solo, chamber, and concerto competitions, including the Cremona International Piano Competition, the BMC-Zimmerli Foundation Piano Competition, the Kansas City Symphony Young Artist Competition, and numerous others. Most recently, she and tenor Morgan Manifacier were awarded the 2022 John Kerr Award Duo Prize for their all-English recital program at Lauderdale House in London. Penner has received generous grants from the Koch Cultural Trust and The Performing Arts Consortium for her artistic endeavors, and her recent performances have been broadcast on WMHT. Her principal teachers include Christina Dahl, Ann Schein, and Li-Shan Hung; she is also grateful for additional lessons with Gilbert Kalish and Peter Serkin and for the invitation to play in several masterclass series for Menahem Pressler.
A special love for art song has further led to classes and coachings with Elly Ameling, Dawn Upshaw, Christoph Prégardien, Joan Rodgers, and many other vocal luminaries. As an advocate for the music of Lili Boulanger, Penner frequently performs and presents on her songs and solo piano music, most recently giving a lecture recital on the newly released manuscript of Boulanger’s Thème et variations at the 2023 Music by Women Festival.
Penner holds a DMA in Piano Performance from Stony Brook University and recently joined the faculty at Baylor University’s School of Music. She was previously a Lecturer of Piano at the University of Nevada, Reno and coached chamber music at the Stony Brook Young Artist Program.
